Nicola Peel DM FRCP, Consultant and Honorary Senior Lecturer, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Visiting Professor, University of Derby Nicola graduated from the University of Nottingham Medical School with BMedSci (hons) in 1982 and BM BS in 1984. In 1990 she was awarded an Arthritis Research Council Clinical Fellowship to study osteoporosis in steroid-treated rheumatoid arthritis which formed the basis of her thesis for her Doctorate of Medicine in 1994. Having completed her rheumatology training in Newcastle, she returned to the University of Sheffield in 1997 and was appointed to her current post as Consultant in 2000. As Clinical Lead between 2002 and 2019 she ensured the clinical service integrated closely with the Academic Unit of Bone Metabolism and was instrumental in developing and evaluating innovative models of service delivery such as a one-stop fracture risk assessment service and the use of biochemical markers of bone turnover to monitor osteoporosis treatment in primary care. She has a lead role within the Trust as a consultant appraiser and appraisal trainer. Nicola has a long affiliation with the Royal Osteoporosis Society with whom she has undertaken many roles, including as past Editor of Osteoporosis Review and Chair of the Conference Committee. She was appointed as a Trustee in 2019 and has recently taken over as Chair of the Clinical Committee.
