Jill Griffin DCR (R), qualified in 1993 from Bristol School of Radiography and after working in Somerset for many years specialising in Bone Densitometry (DXA) and MRI, with a special interest in spinal imaging, she took a post at Plymouths Derriford hospital to lead the Healthy Bones Service as Consultant Radiographer and clinical lead role. In this role Jill developed and promoted quality improvements in DXA scanning and managed the regions award winning mobile DXA scanning service which covers 2500 square miles bringing the service closer to people’s homes in a rural region. After a 2 year secondment to the Charity, Jill was appointed as Clinical Lead for Vertebral Fractures and Professional Development in 2020 and is responsible for supporting the delivery of quality improvements for the better identification of osteoporotic vertebral fractures at local service level and with national stakeholders. Jill is also responsible for shaping and leading on the professional development and training programmes for health care professionals within the Charity. Jill was co-author on the Charity’s Clinical Guidance for effective vertebral fracture identification and Reporting of DXA in adult fracture risk assessment. Jill is also Post Chair or the Royal Osteoporosis Society Bone Densitometry Training and Advisory panel which directs the National Training Scheme for Bone Densitometry, she contributes to the Clinical Committee, and has led on technical aspects of peer review of osteoporosis services.
